Our Foals of 2009

Mossy Oaks Farm Miniature DonkeysFuture Brood Jennets

All our babies are handled from the moment they are born (we haven't missed a birth yet) and many times daily thereafter. We pick them up and carry them around, tap their hooves, put our fingers in their mouths and ears and rub them all over their bodies. Our foals learn to trust people completely as they associate us with comfort and security. It always does my heart good when the babies come running up for loves every time I walk into their pasture.

Well Latte' certainly outd id herself with this interesting baby. La-La is the wooliest baby we have had here since Sweet Pea. Her blue-gray coloring with that black nose and all that fur makes her look like a Koala bear. And this is one drafty jennet!! Under all that hair are very straight legs with good bone and she has a nice wide chest and rear. Extremely lovable donkey who will add quality to any herd. See her on our 'for sale' page. . This little jennet is a full sister to Mossy Oak's Misty Blue.

Grand Dam: Belle Rio Star of Bethlehem, 31" Brown

Our ranch helper, Tom, who also happens to be my cousin, named this little pocket donkey. No matter how hard you try to ignore her to get your work done, it is totally impossible. She is always right there by your side. If you walk away 6 feet, she follows 6 feet. If you cross the yard about 300 feet, you guessed it...there she is!! And personality is only a small part of the picture here. Though tiny she is, she is extremely correct and very heads up. I cannot fault this jennet in any way. She is a great example of what we have been striving for in our breeding program. And yup you guessed it.... this little girl is not for sale. This little jennet is a full sister to Mossy Oak's Milk Dude.

Lollipop blessed us with this tiny, adorable jennet just before dawn. She was born on her Sire's birthday. Kailua has the tiniest little head and is sweet as can be. If you put your face near hers she kisses you over and over. Kailua is full sister to Tootsie Pop who is a pretty 2 year old now. As Jane Du Plessis said when she visited several months ago, Lollipop really "wows" her. She passes this wow factor on to all of her babies and Tomahawk ain't too shabby either!! Kailua is definitely a keeper!! She is a beautiful and tiny version of her gorgeous mother. Nice bone, straight legs, short coupled and a beautiful head.

     Grand Sire: Fisher's Great Gildersleeve, 30½" Tri-Spot
Grand Dam: Half Ass Acres Christy, 32½" Dk Gray/Brn

Mambo Jambo in one dictionary means "badass" or "really cool dude". Now this was a great surprise as we never thought we would be blessed with another gorgeous spot like Mambo's beautiful full sister "Jamaica Me Smile". "Mambo Jambo" is an adorable small, chunky, extremely correct little jack. He has huge eyes and a short head and the straightest legs ever on a newborn! Reba produces incredible babies and Indy has never once disappointed us either. This superb little jack will be a great asset to any breeding program looking for fantastic conformation and color with a pedigree that has proven itself over and over again. This little dark spotted jack is a nephew to two ACOSA Grand National Champions, Alanis and Monty. Monty was also the NMDA Grand National Gelding in 2003.

We were sitting outside in the front yard watching Missy walk in a perfect circle for about an hour. She lay down and within 7 minutes delivered this beautiful little girl. It was a perfect "Tuesday Afternoon". And we almost named her just that. Then the grandkids said her adorable little black nose looked like a briquet. One thing led to another and we just had to name her Briquette Bardo! We call her BB for short. She is a very correct and beautiful little donkey. She comes running and wraps herself around you like a towel. She is the perfect example of what we strive for in our breeding program. Outstanding conformation and irresistable personality!!

Dam: Belle Rio Sydney, 33½" Brown
Grand Sire: Belle Rio Jimbo, 31
½" Dark Brown
Grand Dam: Belle Rio Katie, 34" Brown

Sophie is the most correct little girl ever!! She is beautiful and perfect from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail. Her Dam, Sydney, was Grand Champion Western States at the age of two. No doubt this little girl will follow in her mom's footsteps. Her two full brothers, Spirit and Pavarotti, are also both show quality donkeys. We will no doubt repeat this pairing of Sydney and Indy who both pass their perfection to their progeny.

After keeping a close eye on Sydney for several days, we decided we just had to go to town for some things. Upon our arrival back home we spotted Sydney in the prettiest, shadiest area of our front lawn, lying down and in labor. The dogs were about 10 feet away from her, making sure she wasn't bothered by anything. She delivered her baby within 10 minutes of our arrival. Sophie has incredible presence and will be a natural in the showring. She has an endearing personality to go with her great looks which makes her a perfect package in any herd. I expect her to mature at about 32 inches tall.

Sophia is offered for sale! Visit our 'for sale' page for more information .

This little boy is a real pistol. And a pure delight as well. He is a gorgeous deep red and built like a little tank. He is constantly on the go and getting pictures is not an easy task. We have no other way to describe her color than "Razzleberry". Mix frozen raspberries and cool-whip and you get "Razzleberry Dream". Add a ton of sugar and you get this adorable little jennet. Sweet as they come and nice and drafty like her mom and dad. Will add more info soon as her momma is quite protective of her still so we have yet to see her really interact with the other babies and with us. Haven't decided yet if we will offer her for sale. So keep checking back with us.

I have only seen this unique combination of color and muzzle 2 other times and never here on our farm. She is full sister to Bella Roana who was purchased by Lil Angels Donkeys last year. She has dark roaning throughout and big beautiful eyes and ears. I really want to keep this jennet but as we all know we simply cannot keep them all. Or can we?? She's for sale. Visit our 'for sale' page for more information.

  Dam: Mossy Oak's Sweet Pea, 32½" Gray/Rose-Dun

     Grand Dam: Lucky C Misty, 33" Gray-Dun

Faith had a bit of a rough start coming into this world on Good Friday. Sweet Pea decided to finally accept this 3rd baby of hers but the nursing part took some time. Then it appeared Faith was nursing fine but apparantly she was not. She spent 2 days in the Clinic in ICU receiving IV fluids and antibiotics and a plasma transfusion. Now she is back home and doing very well. Sweet Pea lets her nurse constantly and is being a very good mom. Faith is a beautiful little girl and has the prettiest markings with big beautiful eyerings. She is sweet as can be and loves being carried around by all her human friends. We haven't decided yet whether or not to offer her for sale. We have become very attached to her.

  Dam: Lucky C June Bug, 33" Gray/Rose-Dun
Grand Sire: Coldcron's Pace, 33" Light Red

     Grand Dam: Lucky C Misty, 33" Gray-Dun

What a nice beginning to our 2009 foaling season. June Bug had her little bundle of joy within 5 minutes of her water breaking. A darling tiny girl. We wanted to give her a name with "Bug" in it such as Lady Bug or Doodle Bug, etc. After watching June Bug half the night on the barn cam we figured we should name her after a dance. She is a very good mother but into tough love for the first few hours and sort of flings the babies around in the stall. It looked like they were dancing and after thinking of different dance names we stumbled upon the perfect name for this adorable little girl, "JitterBug". I don't think she will mature over 30" and she has nice straight legs and a tiny little head with big beautiful eyes. At less then 24 hours old she already comes and nuzzles for kisses.
